The next 5 movies in my netfilx queue are all Kirk Douglas Movies. . . In my own little way. . i have decided to celebrate this great actor who has often been underrated for his craft. I saw the detective story a week ago. . and rushed to my queue to rearrange the list to have my Kirk Douglas film festival. The highlights so far have been
Detective Story (1951)
They did not even nominate him for a Oscar for Detective Story. A tall performance from a tower of an actor! . . .the seething anger when he spouts the lines "my immaculate wife" . . in this movie . . is what cinema is all about. Great acting! Great Directing, Great Scrrenplay ( was actually a play)
Last Train from Gun Hill
One of my favorite westerns, an unsung classic among westerns. . and probably one of John Sturges best films ( The Great Escape, The Magnificient Seven, Gun Fight at OK coral).
This Movie has GREAT performances from Anthony Quinn and Kirk Douglas - A great western backdrop of conflict between paternal instincts and friendhip. . . .had a great time watching it
