New rebels for a cause

Edukators (2004) - The Edukators (German: Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei; literally "the fat years are past", translated within the film as "the days of plenty are numbered") is a German-Austrian film made by the Austrian director Hans Weingartner and released in 2004. Nominated for the "Golden Palm Award" in 2004 Cannes Film Festiva . It is a captivating, lighthearted and often tense film that documents the angst in today's youth against the "man" ("capitalist dictatoships" - as often described in the film). THe highlight of the movie is the arguments presented in the movie that make it more cerebral and pithy than it appears to be. Very enjoyable and a good after taste. . . you know what i mean.

Ninjai is classic flash animation - Poetic!

From Austria via France. . . . .Comes Cache ( Hidden). . .Classic Mindbender

Once in a while, there comes a film from the otherside of the pond that reveals the gap between traditional Hollywood fare and European Cinema. The gap is huge.
I have always found French Cinema very interesting, constantly probing and evolving. Cache is a classic Hitchcockian tale of alienation, guilt and other dark emotions that torment and spice up our lives on a daily basis. Visually stunning and disturbing - it is a must watch for fans of good cinema. The ending usually stirs a lot of debate- so watch it and lets discuss this one for a long time.

Not the Zing Thing - But it's still Gold Spot

Gold Spot - Its definately not the "Zing Thing" - but here is a band that is making it big on the West Coast with influences like Md Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar (????). I was confused and surprised ( Pleasantly!) Md Rafi is a stud. . . .but Lata cant sing for nuts. . .she's too nasal to be an influence. . . at the risk of incurring the wrath a gzillion fans- i think Lata is more of an "influenza" than an influence.
But we are talking about Gold Spot
. . . .Gold Spot is a pretty neat band and have a hit in Rewind ( http://www.goldspot.net/goldspotnew/index_preview.php) . . check them out and comment!!!

Recent Adventures in Celluloid. . .

After the "Hustler", I revisited "Cool Hand Luke" and the great admiration I had for Paul Newman's character of Luke- an irreverent loner who is put on a chain gang for destroying parking meters. When he stands up to the gang's merciless boss, he becomes an unlikely hero to his fellow prisoners. . .and me. Remember "What we have here is a failure to communicate" - wow!

A few months later, after some memorable modern classics ( V for Vendetta- I loved this film - a modern classic for sure, Blade Runner, Sin City - saw it 3 times already. . . still cant get enough) I ran into a very high voltage all time classic - Inherit the Wind. Some powerhosue performances by Spencer Tracy ( Remember those long conversations in Guess who is coming to Dinner ) Gene Kelly , and Fredric March. Classic debate on the evolution of man - and conflict with modern thought ( Book Of Genesis vs Darwin).

. . .and the adventure continues. . .

The HUSTLER

Revisited this black and white classic once again on TCM- rekindled an old debate we had in Gulzar(Gulzar's The good old cafe in Old Hyderabad that was home to many a ge(r)m. . . .of an idea).. . . about WINNERS and LOSERS.
Classic Movie! Must Watch and must discuss WINNERS and LOSERS.
Paul Newman as "Fast Eddie" is the quintessential Loser who has to lose all to finally win!! He rocks!
